The Solo Practitioner has a two part article on the importance of a website. In part I he discusses whether or not to have a website. He discusses creating a website and what you’ll need. He offers some easy steps about what to expect to spend on a website. Part II discusses marketing your website online.
Ah yes, the dreaded marketing word. Internet marketing can be a bit different from marketing offline. How much you go about using your website to market yourself online is up to you. You definitely want make sure it appears when people put in your clinic specialty and the local area you live in. I don’t need to come up as page for acupuncturists. However, I do need to come up on the first page (preferably first position) for “acupuncturists North Bend”. I should also rank well for “acupuncturists Seattle” and “acupuncturists King County.” I typically keyword for the plural of acupuncturists as statistically more searchers use the plural of a word.
There are online services that can help with this, but expect that they’ll cost you money. Think about who your patients are. If you specialize in treating age related disease, you might not need such a great website. However, if you love working with “diseases” that are found in younger people, which might include sports injuries or perhaps PMS issues, you’ll definitelly want to be found online. Think of a website as long term advertising space. You can change content relatively easily and you can add pages just as easily.
