Marketing Without Jargon

It’s tough to explain what you do as an acupuncturist without referring to “qi” or “energy”, yet if we want to leave jargon behind and speak plainly for everyone to understand, we need to work on this. Lynn Grodski talks about this in her book on Building Your Ideal Private Practice. It was a challenge for me to do this, but this weekend, I started reworking my personal website. It’s still in the early stages but the front page pretty much stays away from anything that might be a “jargon” type word. I also tried to focus on outcomes and made some composite patients to show the outcomes.
You can check it out at my personal site.
As I was playing with the rewrite on this site, I upgraded wordpress there as well. I was pleased to find that you can now set a particular page to your main page. I had to do a bit of thinking about how to get people to the blog post area but I think I have that issue worked out. I love having the blog theme throughout the site rather than having the site look one way and the blog another (like on quantum!). This allows me a very easy way to update anything I want to update. I can easily add photos and any links that I want to add to the site. There will be minimal issues playing around with html too. It’s great.
For those who don’t know much about blogging, wordpress is the software that I have installed on this site to write posts on this blog. Basically I just purchased the domain name, some hosting and then used fantastico to install the blog on my site. It’s that easy. Of course, I made it harder by not finding a theme in the colors that I wanted, which required a bit of tweaking but now that that’s done, all I have to do is write!
