Inclement Weather

Do you have an inclement weather policy for your patients? I don’t have one. I can usually get there but there have been a few days this year when I worried about getting there on time for early patients. However, things have always worked out.
I am thinking of having our general office create a policy that we can post some place. There are several options in my mind. We can say we will always call if there is a cancellation and if the patient can’t make it, they should call us. We could also say that if the school district is closed, that we will be cancelling our appointments before 10 AM and then calling others. It’s hard to think of all the natural disasters but I think it would be a good idea to have something in writing so that patients know how to get in touch with us or at least when to get in touch with us during inclement weather.
So far, I’ve had enough warning to have phone numbers with me for each of my patients so that I can call them and let them know what is going on. They’ve all been very understanding and things have worked out well. What do other people do?
