Google Local

It seems google has gotten their process a little more refined since Tri-State College of Acupuncture put themselves on the map. I got my post card yesterday, which was just about two weeks from the time I put my business in.  I input my pin number. Now I have to wait 6 weeks for the information to show up in a search.
I will give yahoo local about that amount of time as well.
It does seem like a long time, but I and everyone else needs to remember that the large search engines are international. That means there are a lot of websites out there to go through.
I mentioned Tri State because Illyan Seem was kind enough to comment on the last post with their experience with google maps. Â Â I wanted to point out this comment:
The first postcard Google sent me never showed up, so I had to request a second one. That time I got it after about 2 weeks. Guess they’re not quite as adept in the offline world.
I feel it’s important for anyone working on a new website to realize that search engines can and do make mistakes. If you’ve waited a reasonable amount of time for something and it’s not happening, it’s okay to politely check back.   In the case of the post card, it seems that two weeks or so is a good time frame. Give them a few extra days over the two weeks.
Google says it will take 6 weeks to be up on their maps. If nothing happens in 8 weeks, I’d contact them. I always try and give them the benefit of just being busy.
Like most webmasters I find myself suspicious of google.   I am not a fan. However, I do find that they tend to be more user friendly to webmasters seeking information than yahoo. It could be my experience. It could be the way I work and where I tend to look for information but yahoo seems very counterintuitive to use for me.
