Chamber Membership

Our office joined the local Chamber of Commerce. It’s something I had planned to do for awhile, but hadn’t gotten around to it. The Chamber is usually a marketing choice for me because it allows me to have one on one time with a variety of other professionals local to my business. They may not need my services, but some of them may run into people who do. It’s another way to market.
Chamber membership can be one of the more spendy marketing things that I do, however, because the office joined, we are able to split the costs amongst several people. Most Chambers will allow a business to join but several “employees” can come to events. While I am an independent practitioner and not really an employee of the Wellness Center, with the blessing of the two women who are the Wellness Center, I can go in and be the acupuncturist from the Center. We have one other naturopath who will be in the same category. The Chamber doesn’t care. My office is happy to have a lower fee and I am thrilled to be spending only a quarter of the money that I might have had to spend.
Although I recommend the Chamber as part of a marketing plan, I think it is risky for anyone who isn’t in a Business to Business enterprise. Some Chambers are great for healthcare providers and others are less so. It’s hard to know until you’ve been in the one in your community. This is why I am particularly happy that at least for the first year I can join for a quarter of the cost.
