Are You Willing to Do What it Takes?

Posted on March 25, 2007 - Filed Under General |

I was talking to several friends about people in general. One woman brought up how people often won’t do what it takes to get where they want to be. She said that in Canada a reporter had spent a month as a homeless person. He asked someone what they would needed in order to stop being homeless. The person said they needed a job. The reporter went out and contacted a bunch of employers until he found one willing to pay the homeless person enough to live on. He made the offer to the man living on the street but was turned down because the man would have had to have stayed in a shelter and he liked his freedom too much to do that.

Sometimes we think we want something but aren’t willing to do the work to get it. What holds us back? What other things are more important to us?

It might be a good question to ask, when we find ourselves unable to get out and market the way we need to. For me, I hate going in and putting myself out there. I’m shy. I guess I might need to ask if my feeling of safety is more important that being successful.

Why don’t we do the marketing things we know we should? What is more important to us than having a successful business. Sometimes those reasons can be good. I might not want to market if my practice is currently so busy I don’t have time to market. Or maybe I have a lot going on in my personal life right now and I don’t have the time to spend marketing. If I understand where these blocks are, I can make choices. If I can’t even ask the questions, the choices become harder.

So remember: Are you willing to do what it takes to be successful? If not, find out why. You might have another agenda.
