Advertising in Print

I just purchased my yellow pages line ad about a week ago. It’s a one line add with my name and phone number in the phone book that the community I work in uses the most. There are several business directory phone books in most cities now and it’s important to know which one gets used. I ignore the others.
I didn’t spend a lot of money on the phone book ad but I wanted my name and number in the book in case a current patient needs to get a hold of me and doesn’t have a card with them. If I pick up any other patients from that, it’s great too but it’s not where I expect most of my best business will come from. Therefore I didn’t add on any whistles and bells to make my advertisement “stand out.”
Our office is advertising in a good living section of the local newspaper. It’s a small paper and a small rectangular ad is about $160. Split four ways, that’s only $40. I know the paper gets read because I got a couple of patients when I announced my new business in it. I have hopes that the advertising will create more exposure for me and the office.
Print advertising is not my best marketing arena. I did a lot of that when I started my business the first time. I didn’t get a lot of response. It did get me a lot of name recognition. As I am new in town, I think name recognition is an important first step for me. Getting some immediate gratification in some new patients is also a great thing!
I do believe that this advertisement is money well spent. I appreciate having people in the office to help defray the costs of advertising too.
